# Underwater Effects

You can already set the color, transparency and refraction of the water surface when looked at from below, but maybe you want additional underwater effects.

## **Post processing volume**

You can set up a post processing box volume right under the water level and change it to look like the scene is underwater. Now, when the player goes below the water level, it will look like he's underwater.

Some effects that I use are *Color Adjustments,* *Vignette*, and *Panini Projection*.

## Underwater Caustics

Caustics can be rendered underwater using the custom renderer feature. There is a limitation however. Caustics will be limited to the height of the camera. So when you go under water and look up, the caustics will not show up above the camera. You can make this artifact less apparent by lowering the depth at which caustics are rendered and setting the fade to 1.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://alexander-ameye.gitbook.io/stylized-water/features/underwater-effects.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
